Back for our fourth summer OVATIONS THEATRE’S SUMMER TEEN INTENSIVE continues to be the only local program producing rarely-produced, contemporary and thought-provoking musical theatre for young people. Past productions include RENT, Heathers and Carrie. This summer we will produce the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal, with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt.
NEXT TO NORMAL explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next to Normal was also chosen as “one of the year’s ten best shows” by critics around the country, including The Los AngelesTimes, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.
Our program is a process-based program where students spend the first week not only learning the material but also creating three-dimensional characters, acting and emoting their songs, making songs an extension of dialogue, learning the process of script analysis, interpreting text and sub-text and understanding complex emotions, objectives & situations. The end of the process concludes with a black box style presentation.
Seating for OVATIONS THEATRE is reserved with each ticket costing $20 online and $25 at the door. Online ticket sales for each show will stop one hour before each performance. Latecomers and those who leave during the performance will be sat in available seats on the side at designated times by ushers. All ticket sales are final and there are NO EXCHANGES OR REFUNDS.
